Burna Boy and Mr Eazi were both nominated for Best International Act while Teni got nominated for Best New International Act.
Also in the category of Best International Act are South African rapper, AKA, UK acts, Dave, Giggs, Aya Nakamura and Dosseh from France.
In addition to Teni in the category of Best New International Act are Sho Madjodzi from South Africa, Headie One and Octavian from the UK and France’s Jokair and Nesly.
In excitement, Teni shared the news on her Instagram handle saying:
“Hello everyone, it’s your favorite girl, Teni Makanaki and guess what? I’ve been nominated for the Best International New Act at the BET Awards. I feel amazing. It feels great. I’m really really excited and I’m so grateful. And I want to say a big thank you to my fans, thank you to everyone that keeps supporting me, I don’t take your love for granted. Thank you and big shout out to Viacom and BET.”
Teni is now among the very few Nigerian artistes getting this kind of international recognition this early in her music career. The singer had an amazing 2018 which seems to have spilled into 2019 with her recent single, Sugar Mummy taking in its space on Vogue online.
The 17th BET Awards which will take place on the 24th of June will honor the late rapper, Nipsey Hussle with a posthumous nomination. The Award ceremony will air Live across seven Viacom networks including BET and MTV.
